Best Medicare Advantage Plans for 2018?

Most Popular* Medicare Advantage Plans by County for 2018

Two things I want to be clear about:

Thing One

*These are the plans my clients who are 64-year-old and “new to Medicare” have been attracted to and have asked me to help them apply for most frequently in 2018.

These may not be the best Medicare Advantage Plans in Connecticut nor the best for you.

They may or may not be the most popular plans for people who are not my clients.

Thing Two

These are Connecticut Medicare ADVANTAGE plans only.

A Medicare SUPPLEMENT policy may be a better fit for you. (In the next few days, I’ll write about the 2018 Connecticut Medicare Supplement Plans my clients like and I recommend.)

You will find a link below to the Summary of Benefits for the plan most popular in your county (unless you live outside Connecticut). Skimming through the document will give you good feel for what you can expect from a Medicare Advantage Plan.

You’ll see the monthly premiums. You’ll also see the deductibles and copays you for doctor visits, hospital stays and other medical services.

The Most Popular Plan in Your County May Not be the Best for You

I make no claims that these are the best Medicare Advantage plans in CT. Without knowing more about you, I won’t know if either is a good plan for you.

Your doctors may not be in the network, another plan may have lower copays for your drugs or you may have a unique situation that makes the most popular plan in your county a bad deal for you.

Therefore I represent all but one Medicare Health Plan available to Connecticut residents.

It is also why to make it easy for you to get the information you need. Request a recommendation from me by phone or online before you make a final decision about your policy

How to Compare Medicare Advantage Plans

(I’ll answer the question “how do i pick a Medicare Supplement Plan?” in a upcoming email.)

If staying connected with the doctors you trust is important to you, eliminate the plans that don’t have your physicians in network. You can do this by contacting me, or by visiting the plans’ websites and searching for your doctor.

Similarly, check the formulary (list of covered prescription drugs) to make sure your medicines are covered.

Once you’ve eliminated the plans that won’t cover your doctors or drugs, it’s time to start comparing the benefits, deductibles, copays and coinsurance.

You can start with the services you think you’re most likely to need. This may include doctor visits, outpatient procedures and prescriptions. You can see how much you will need to pay if you need for each type of medical service. Then compare what you find for one policy with the information for the other plans competing for your attention.

You’ll probably pay the most for hospital stays and outpatient procedures. Even if you do not expect to need either anytime soon, you should ask what your cost share will be if you happen to need these more expensive services.

Medicare Advantage vs Medigap plans

One of the biggest decisions you’ll need to make about Medicare is to decide whether you should apply for a Medigap (or Medicare Supplement.

Each type of plan has its benefits. Each has weak points also.

Medicare Advantage plans tend to be much less expensive than the default option. The older, costlier Medicare Supplement plans can cost several hundred dollars a month.

Medicare Advantage plans tend to be much less expensive than Medicare Supplement Plans. Although most of my clients feel of my tell me comfortable with the doctors available to them, this restriction is one of the reason the insurance companies can offer policies with $0 monthly premiums.

Medigap plans are also known as Medicare Supplements. These plans have no network restrictions. You can visit any doctor in the US who accepts Medicare if you chose one of these.

A Medigap policy is the easiest choice when some or all of your important doctors are not in network for any plan. Another reason to choose a Medigap plan is when you want to be able to see the best doctor for given condition.

I can help you choose your plan. Just call me. I’m usually hear from 9:00 in the morning until 9:00 in the evening. Call me at 203 374 3645 when you want to talk about your options.

If you want information about CT Medigap Plans.

You may think it is odd…

that you don’t see the names of the plans in this post. Federal regulations keep me from mentioning the companies I represent, their prices or their benefits in blog post. (Unless I get prior approval from each company, and that is rarely practical or possible.)

You’ll see the plan names, prices and benefits in the document for your county after you click on the link.

You can ask me anything about the plans by calling me or hitting reply to this email. You can also request an emailed recommendation from me when you’re ready to take the next step.
